I picked the first songs because Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays (and also because the food is so good!). I picked the second song because I really like butterflies (I have a butterfly tattoo on my foot).
I didn't have any issues matching the number of syllables with the number of notes with these two songs but while looking for songs I had trouble with a few.
I think piggyback songs will be helpful because it's a fun way for the students to learn material and singing a silly song would help the students remember it.
I think the Kindergarten teacher recommended piggyback songs because she knows from experience that the students really enjoy them and get a lot out of them.
"Thanksgiving Dinner"
Sung to the tune of "Row, Row, Row Your Boat"
Gobble, gobble said the turkey
As he ran way,
Wouldn’t you rather eat spaghetti
On Thanksgiving Day?
Corn and beans and jelly bread,
Cake and pumpkin pie,
All these good things you must eat,
The turkey said “Goodbye~”

Caterpillar
Tune: Row, Row, Row Your Boat
One caterpillar, two caterpillars, three caterpillars today.
Four caterpillars, five caterpillars eating all the day.
One cocoon, two cocoons, three cocoons today.
Four cocoons, five cocoons sleeping all the day.
One butterfly, two butterflies, three butterflies today.
Four butterflies, five butterflies, flying, flying away.
